College Football Rankings – Who is the Best Team in the Country?

College Football Rankings

There are a lot of interesting changes in the latest College Football rankings. The TCU Horned Frogs went undefeated during the regular season and are ranked No. 1. The No. 3 ranked Georgia Buckeyes are a surprising surprise. The Illinois Fighting Illini are also an unexpected No. 3 team, but are they the best team in the country?

TCU Horned Frogs undefeated in regular season

The TCU Horned Frogs are undefeated in the regular season after their first four games, but their next two games could throw them off course. They face No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 20 Kansas State and then finish the regular season at home against Iowa State. After those two games, TCU will play only one more game against a ranked opponent. However, if TCU keeps winning, they could move up the rankings.

The Horned Frogs must win all five of their remaining regular season games to secure a playoff spot. If they win those games, they can play in the Big 12 championship game in Arlington on Dec. 3. If they win the Big 12 championship game, they could even get into the College Football Playoff.

The Horned Frogs finished the regular season undefeated in 2008 and 2009, their first undefeated season since 1938. The Horned Frogs were also undefeated in the regular season in 2009 and 2010. The team lost in the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl to Boise State, but they went on to win the Rose Bowl the following year, defeating Wisconsin.

Despite a rough start, the Horned Frogs are on a roll. They’ve already beaten four ranked opponents in four weeks, and have two wins against unbeaten teams. That’s more than any other Big 12 team has managed.

Georgia Buckeyes ranked No. 1

Georgia Buckeyes are back on top in College Football rankings after defeating South Carolina 48-7 in Week 3. The Bulldogs had a very good defense, allowing only 4.8 yards per play, and over 100 yards in the fourth quarter. The offense was led by quarterback Stetson Bennett, who completed 17 of 23 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Brock Bowers caught five passes for 121 yards and a score.

The Week 6 results will definitely impact the rankings. Week six was a crazy week in college football, and the results will definitely affect those rankings. Georgia’s defense is impressive and has only allowed two touchdowns through six weeks. This is a huge sign of progress.

Georgia won a blowout game against Vanderbilt last week, and the majority of voters believe it’s the best team in the country. The Buckeyes were off in Week seven, but are back against Iowa next week. If you were wondering what influenced the rankings of the Georgia Buckeyes, consider that the top three teams all won a game, and the rest of the polls were split evenly between the two.

The Buckeyes won three out of four games this week, and a win against Missouri will seal the Big Ten title. The Buckeyes are already three-and-a-half games into bowl eligibility. And in Week Four, Georgia is still unbeaten in three games, but that is because of their stellar defense and tenacious offense.

Illinois Fighting Illini ranked No. 3

Illinois’ recent win over Arizona State has propelled the Fighting Illini into the Top 25. This is their first appearance in the Top 25 since 2007, and their win over ASU marked a huge accomplishment. The win also marked the Fighting Illini’s first win over a ranked opponent. This win gives the Fighting Illini a 3-0 record, a feat they haven’t had since 2001.

The Fighting Illini are now 3-1 overall and tied for first place in the Big Ten West. They face Nebraska on Oct. 29. Tennessee, Georgia and Oklahoma are still ranked in the top four, while Georgia and Ohio State sit at the top three. Illinois has not been ranked in the top 10 since 2001, and the last time they were in the top five was in November of that same year.

The Illinois Fighting Illini are on pace for nine wins, which would be their most win total since 2001. However, they still need one more signature win to get to double digits. This could only happen if the Fighting Illini can defeat Michigan at Michigan Stadium.

After a rocky start to the season, Zook’s recruiting efforts began to pay off during the 2007 season. The Illini won five straight games, including victories over Wisconsin and Penn State at home. At the end of their 5-1 start, the Illini were ranked 18th in the AP Poll, which was their first ranking since the 2001 season. A homecoming win against Ball State sparked Illinois’ bowl eligibility, and a big win over Minnesota assured the Illini’s first bowl appearance.
